Our Mission

The Southern California Deanery St. Nicholas Camping Program is dedicated to presenting young people a living experience of the Holy Orthodox Faith, in their relationship with God and other campers in an uncluttered, natural environment. To accomplish this we will seek to bring young people to:

  • Awareness of self and fellow man
  • A broadening of their Christian life
  • A greater awareness of their religion
  • Good sportsmanship
  • Growth in personal relationships and personal responsibility
  • An appreciation of nature and a concern for the environment

Christian Education

Above all else, Camp St. Nicholas is here to educate the children in the ways of the Lord and to help them grow spiritually in a way that is not very easy in today's society. With the Christian Education program, the campers are encouraged to ask questions to things that they have always wondered about.  Staff members lead the lessons in a very interactive and structured curriculum. A very respected group of clergy are at camp during the season, so guidance is only a step away.

Athletics

We also stress physical growth. Physical activities include swimming, basketball, volleyball, softball, field hockey, and the newest camp favorite (and original) two-towers.  There is always a variety of activities above and beyond those standard athletics, such as a dance class that is held each afternoon.  Through all these activities, we encourage healthy competition and at the same time teach the campers the virtue of teamwork and cooperation in doing the best that they can.

Arts & Crafts

Our Arts & Crafts program lets our campers express their creative side here at camp. Every group is encouraged to work together to be creative as possible on certain projects.  This emphasizes the value of teamwork and cooperation. It also helps in building a sense of community within the group. No one is left out! When all the dust has settled, the campers are also taught responsibility by having them clean up after themselves.

Night Time Activities

The Night Time Activities program at Camp St. Nicholas always offers a variety of games, interaction, and fun!  You can't go wrong with the campfire, serenade night, the dance, the gong show, skits, and more!  We're always introducing new and creative ideas.  But to experience them, you gotta be at camp!
